I mean, seems to me EVERYONE is obsessed with it. The so called "Hard-core" fans dislike the movie, but IMO, both suck (I've only seen trailors for the movie, and no, I don't intend on wasting my good money on that).
I dunno about you guys, but I hated Bella. She was the absolute worst character. I mean, can she be any more needy? She really pissed me off, big time. I mean, it's like "Oh I'm so depressed and alone! I'll move to another town with my dad!Oh! A guy likes me! I'll be a needy slut for him! Oh! Since he won't turn me into a vampire, I'll kill myself! But not really! Oh! He'll just leave! I'll go be a needy slut to Jacob!" >.<
Girls don't depend on guys like that. And it's embarassing to me that a woman would portray girls of my age as such! yeah, I've got a boyfriend. Yeah, I like to be around him. But I've got independence and integrety. I don't depend on him for everything like Bella seems to with Edward.
Another thing, Why do all girls seem to be infactuated with either Edward or Jacob? They aren't real. They aren't even good representations of the male gender. When I hear "Oh I wish I had a boyfriend like Edward" all I want to do is shake the person until they pop. Guys aren't EVER going to be like that. They aren't ever going to be your protector-to-the-point-of-stalkerish-person for you. And although I do understand the whole being attracted to the bad boy villian type, I hate how Bella seems to validify Jacob's attempted RAPE with a claim that "He loves her." How is that attractive?
Also, Why do people compare Meyer with J.K. Rowling? it's always a HP vs Twilight debate. But THEY DON'T COMPARE! First off, Twilight had no real plot, no ultimate goal. In HP, however, it was all about an Orphan boy's struggles and about the power of friendship, virtue, and bravery even when everyone else seems too timid. Twilight lacked that entirely. The only compareable points between HP and Twilight are:
-They've both got Obsessed fans
-They both Have a good vs. evil theme
-And they both have characters who struggle with their identities in their virtue (IE: They both had characters who weren't always sure if they were good or evil.)
IMO, Harry Potter was way better. Way better Written, and had much more of a cultural impact. Yes, Twilight is big in the US and the UK (And probably Japan, though I don't know about popular stuff there, really.) but besides that? Nope. it's not that big. HP on the other hand was a world wide phenominon. And It will long out-live Twilight. Not only that, but the lessons that Harry and his friends go through are lessons that young people today can translate into their own lives, in their own way, since the characters are well rounded and change slightly with each lesson they learn. Twilight didn't have that. It didn't have any virtue you could take and apply to your life.
Personally, I think it was over-rated and a crappy piece of litterature, and I really wish i hadn't wasted my time with such a load of crap. I could've put alot more interesting things in that brainspace.
(Sorry if this was so long, but I'm just entirely pissed off by this series. And i'm entirely tired of this hype.)
